Métis Scholar Awards

A student must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program and hold a minimum cumulative average GPA of 2.0. The student must submit a letter to the Selection Committee outlining reasons for the chosen field of study, how a Métis Scholar Award will impact his/her journey towards education and career objectives. In addition the letter should explain how they are involved in the Métis Community.

Applications will be based upon the following criteria:

1) An applicant cannot be a current client of, or receiving funding from, any program at the Rupertsland Institute.
2) An applicant must show proof of Métis ancestry by submitting a copy of one of the following:
a) A current citizenship card from the Métis Nation of Alberta
b) A current citizenship card from the Métis Nation of Alberta from a parent or a grandparent
c) A verifiable Métis citizenship application that is in progress with Métis Nation of Alberta Registry
d) A current citizenship card from one of the Métis National Council Governing members or, the Manitoba Métis Federation
3) The applicant must declare that his/her name will not appear on the Government of Canada’s Indian Registry, nor a Band list pursuant to the Indian Act, and is neither Inuk, nor non-Status Indian
4) The applicant must declare that he/she is residing in the province of Alberta during their study
5) The applicant must declare all sources of student funding that the applicant is receiving including any financial support from a governing member of the Métis National Council, Manitoba Métis Federation, or Alberta Métis Settlements
6) An applicant must demonstrate current or recent involvement in the Métis community
7) An applicant who receives a Métis Scholar Award in one academic year may continue to apply for Métis Scholar Awards while continuing studies until graduation.
8) An applicant needs to know that priority will be given to Métis Nation of Alberta Citizens and those who have never received funding from Rupertsland Institute.
