Roy Brown Memorial Fund

Roy was born and raised in Lethbridge.
He served in the RCAF during the Second World War and was discharged in 1945 when the War ended.
He then enrolled at the University of Alberta in 1947 in the Commerce Faculty and graduated in April 1950 – was married in July 1950 and found employment with International Harvester Company of Canada.
He Served as a Zone Manager for the Peace River area for three years, was then promoted and transferred to Lethbridge as Assistant Manager for a three year tenure.
Following that he was relocated to the Calgary office in the same capacity for three years, then off to Regina for one year. At the end of that year he resigned his position and purchased the International Harvester Dealership in Calgary.
It became Roy F. Brown Equipment Ltd. (better known as B & R Equipment) and until 1978 when he sold out he was respected in the agriculture community as an honest and forthright dealer – he always had the best interest of the farmer at heart.
During this time at B & R he became vitally interested in the Olds College. Realizing full well its importance in the community.
Roy served on the board for a time and sponsored two students in refresher courses who both ultimately worked at B & R – one as an agricultural mechanic, the other as a parts man.
After retiring from B & R he became a farmer in the Cremona area and raised purebred Polled Herford cattle, hay and crops.
He very much enjoyed the farm life until his death in 2002.
Roy was interested in all facets of agriculture and was a true supporter of young people that showed an aptitude or desire for farming.
That is the reason now for this endowment to be given as awards to aspiring students now and in the future.
